This massive casino, which opened in the mid-1990s, has over 1,000 electronic games and slots, including several Vegas-style favorites. In addition, the casino has blackjack tables and a poker area open 24 hours a day. On weekends, live concerts by local and regional musicians are frequent, and the casino includes a big restaurant and bar area. The Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes run this 40,000-square-foot facility, which is open 24 hours a day, all year.
El Reno’s Heritage Express Trolley, the state’s sole rail-based trolley, enables passengers to explore the city without breaking a sweat. This refurbished 1924 Brill Motor Car has 48 seats and travels around El Reno’s downtown area. To take a trolley tour of downtown, park and board at Heritage Park and then jump off and on at any of the numerous stations along the route.
Historic Fort Reno, located a few miles northwest of El Reno, started as a military post during the Indian Wars Era in 1874 and is the reason the city received its name. The 6,000-acre complex is now a major tourist attraction, including tours, reenactments, a wedding chapel, and the yearly “Ghosts of Fort Reno” event held in the fort’s on-site cemetery. Stop into the Fort Reno Visitor Center and Museum for an up-close look at the region’s history via relics, photos, and art.
The Canadian County Historical Museum is housed on the grounds of El Reno’s Heritage Park and is made up of a variety of historic structures. Visit the first Red Cross Canteen in the country and General Sheridan’s cabin, the oldest existing building in Canadian County, while you’re there. You can also visit the historic Old Reno Hotel, Possum Holler School, and Darlington Indian Jail to learn more about early life in El Reno.
Lake El Reno, with 333 acres of open space and 300 acres of water, is the perfect spot for outdoor activities. Water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, boating, and fishing are all permitted, but fishing requires the purchase of a temporary permit. The lake was formed by building a dam over Fourmile Creek and is bordered by four miles of coastline studded with camping, picnic, and entertainment facilities such as a golf course, RV park, a remote control aircraft field, and a motorbike dirt track.
